Pandanggo sa Ilaw is a graceful dance of lights from Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro. The word pandanggo comes from the Spanish "fandango" — a dance characterized by lively steps and clapping. Dancers balance three tinggoy (oil lamps) — one on the head and one on each hand.
This dance was developed during the Spanish colonial period and blends indigenous Filipino grace with Spanish fandango influence. It was popularized in Lubang Island and later spread throughout the country.
The dance represents balance, grace, and illumination. The lamps symbolize the guiding light of the Filipino spirit. It is performed during fiestas and cultural programs, often as a highlight performance showing the dancer's skill and poise.
